Kolan Shire Council
Kolan Shire Council Library identified a need
within the community for improved access to information and to enable
groups within the community to look outside the area for financial
assistance, including Government subsidies, Community Gaming Fund,
etc. The Community Access Project was developed in response to this
need. IntroductionWhen the Grant was applied for, Kolan Shire had
the fifth fastest population growth of any local government authority
in the Wide Bay region. This growth rate had placed a great level
of pressure on Council to provide facilities and services to all
residents.
There was a need for improved access to information in the community
and for groups to look outside the area for financial assistance
e.g. Government Subsidies, Community Gaming Fund etc. Council had
purchased, at a cost of $5,600, a copy of CD Data 96, a complete
CD version of the 1995 Census for Queensland, with Map info, to
provide easy to access statistical data and mapped data.
